mission statement

The Center For Alternative and Historic Processes (CFAAHP) is a workshop space and collective dedicated to do-it-yourself photography. Through our passion for photography, we hope to reignite the excitement that the original photographic pioneers felt. Our workshops explore the myriad of photographic processes invented in the 19th and early 20th centuries with instructors who are well known in their respective fields. CFAAHP hopes to create an open exchange via a gallery space, website, artist talks and information dissemination. Our vision is to keep these beautiful processes alive and safe from disappearance.

CFAAHP feels the following statement articulates current day sentiment:

I was more and more convinced that instead of evolving in recent years, photography had instead been devolving. Given the industry-wide preference for 35 mm over large-format, auto-focus cameras, tabular grain films, and multi-contrast papers (in tandem with the phasing out of slower conventional films and graded papers. . .) the movement towards digital imaging seemed little more than the crowning achievement of downward trends.
